Apologies for the unexpected quiet last week! We truly needed that break, dedicating invaluable time to reconnect as a family. Robert, my partner in both life and this creative venture, had been away for a whole month, and his return marked a perfect opportunity for us to step back and simply be together.
I deliberately kept the details off the blog and social media for security reasons – a practice we extend whenever we’re out of town. But now, with Robert safely home, I can finally share the exciting news: he was in Georgia training to become a mortgage loan originator! This new chapter is incredibly thrilling for us. While Robert will absolutely continue to run things here alongside me full-time, this venture represents a fantastic opportunity to diversify our family’s future, ensuring we don’t put all our proverbial eggs in just one basket. It’s about building a more resilient and versatile future for us all.
Right before Robert left at the beginning of July, we managed to put the finishing touches on our front yard makeover. The timing was impeccable, and it gave us a wonderful sense of accomplishment before his departure. Ever since, I’ve been itching to share the incredible transformation of our garage exterior because, truly, it’s nothing short of amazing!

The Foundation of Our Transformation: Limewash and Fresh Hues
Our journey to enhancing the exterior curb appeal began a couple of years ago, tackling some of the most impactful elements first. The biggest game-changer was undoubtedly the limewash application on our brick exterior. We opted for Romabio Bianco White, a choice that instantly brightened and modernized the entire house, giving it that soft, aged, yet incredibly fresh look we adore. It truly brought a coastal, European charm that was missing before.

Complementing the limewash, we meticulously painted the previously yellow-cream trim with Behr Ultra Pure White. This crisp, clean shade provided the perfect contrast and definition. To add depth and a touch of sophistication, the gutters and shutters received a dramatic coat of Behr Cracked Pepper, a deep charcoal that reads almost black. These paint choices weren’t just about color; they were about creating a cohesive, elegant palette that elevated the entire facade.
Cultivating Beauty: Landscaping for Impact and Safety
Beyond the paint, we addressed practical and aesthetic landscaping needs. Several dying trees, which had become a potential hazard and obstructed the view, were carefully cut down. This immediately opened up the space and allowed more light to reach the house. With the larger obstacles removed, we turned our attention to the flower beds. We revamped them by installing stone blocks for crisp borders and adding fresh mulch, instantly bringing life, texture, and a manicured finish to the entryway. The result was an inviting, well-maintained look that significantly boosted our home’s overall appeal.

The Ongoing Evolution: A Glimpse into Our “During” Phase
It has been a long and rewarding several years to get our home’s exterior to this point, and while it’s not entirely finished, the progress is simply astounding. The transformation from where we started to where we are now, what I like to call our “during” phase, is truly remarkable. Looking at the before and current photos side-by-side fills us with so much pride and motivation to continue this journey. Every project, big or small, contributes to the overarching vision we have for our home, turning it into the sanctuary we’ve always dreamed of.

Bright Ideas: Upgrading to Smart Motion Sensor Lighting
This week brought another exciting upgrade: we finally replaced the old, busted motion sensor spotlights with elegant new motion sensor lanterns. This seemingly small change has made a monumental difference. The old spotlights were not only failing but also had a rather “droopy” appearance, detracting from the overall aesthetic. These new lanterns are not just incredibly pretty, adding a sophisticated touch to our garage facade, but they are also vastly more functional.

Motion sensor lights offer numerous benefits, from enhanced security and safety to energy efficiency. They illuminate pathways and entrances only when needed, deterring unwanted visitors and ensuring we always have light when arriving home after dark. We spent considerable time researching various designs and features before settling on ours, considering factors like style, sensor range, and durability. Options ranged from modern sleek designs to more traditional carriage lanterns, and from integrated LED units to those compatible with smart home systems. Ultimately, we chose a design that perfectly complements our refreshed exterior palette and architectural style, proving that functional elements can also be beautiful focal points.
The Garage Door: A Strategic Pause and a Pop of Color
The garage door, while a significant visual component, is slated for eventual replacement. However, recognizing the scope and cost of such a project, we decided on a brilliant interim solution: painting it black. This simple yet impactful change instantly gave the garage a more sophisticated and intentional look, tying in beautifully with the darker accents of our shutters and gutters. It’s amazing how a coat of paint can completely transform an element, allowing us to defer a larger expense without compromising on curb appeal. This temporary fix is serving us well, proving that sometimes, the most effective solutions are also the most straightforward.

Future Horizons: Our Home Renovation To-Do List
While the exterior has seen significant love, the inside of the garage is a whole different story – decidedly not pretty at all! That’s why diving into garage organization and functionality is next on our big home improvement list. We envision a space that’s not just for parking cars, but a well-organized, efficient area for tools, projects, and storage. It’s about maximizing every square inch and creating a truly usable extension of our home.
And beyond the garage interior, our long-term vision for this property includes ambitious projects like eventually replacing the fence to enhance privacy and aesthetics, and even stamping the driveway to add another layer of refined detail. We are fully committed to making this house our forever home, and these projects are all part of that exciting, ongoing journey. It’s a good thing we plan to be here a while, as there’s no shortage of ideas and dreams for every corner of our property!
In the meantime, as we gear up for the internal garage transformation, we’d absolutely love to hear from you. Do you have any fantastic garage organization tips, clever storage solutions, or valuable resources that have worked wonders in your own home? Please share them all – we’re eager for inspiration and practical advice from our wonderful community!
