Experience the Enchantment: 12 Home Bloggers’ Christmas Candlelight House Tours of Homes Lit Up at Night
As the holiday season draws to a close, a very special tradition unfolds – our annual Christmas Candlelight Tour. It feels like just yesterday we were dreaming of festive decorations, and now, the magical day is finally here. Each year, before taking a cherished break to enjoy time with loved ones, I eagerly join my dear friend Rachel at Maison de Pax. Together, we invite you on a peaceful journey through our homes, transformed into glowing sanctuaries by the soft flicker of candles and the enchanting sparkle of twinkle lights.

If you’re joining us from Courtney’s absolutely gorgeous home at French Country Cottage, a warm welcome awaits you! We’re thrilled to have you here to share in the quiet beauty of a home decorated for Christmas, viewed through a uniquely tranquil lens.
The Serene Beauty of a Candlelit Christmas Home
Whether you choose to capture your home’s nighttime glow through photographs or simply bask in the moment, I sincerely hope you set aside a few precious minutes to experience this for yourself. There’s an incredible sense of grounding that comes from disconnecting from screens, letting soft Christmas melodies drift through the air, and quietly wandering through your beautifully decorated home. In these hushed moments, perhaps while everyone else is asleep, you truly connect with the heart of the season.

Imagine stepping into a foyer transformed. The soft glow of candles placed strategically on console tables and shelves casts dancing shadows, highlighting intricate garlands and ornaments. Twinkle lights woven through evergreen branches add a gentle sparkle, turning what might be a busy entryway during the day into a peaceful portal to holiday magic at night. The air might even carry a faint, comforting scent of pine or cinnamon, adding to the immersive sensory experience.

This season, while undeniably full of joy and excitement, can also feel incredibly overwhelming. If I’m not careful, the endless stream of events, gift lists, and never-ending tasks can easily consume my peace and energy. That’s why, in the precious final days leading up to Christmas Eve, I make a conscious effort to put down the ever-growing to-do list. I remind myself, “Whatever tasks remain unfinished, it’s truly okay. I choose to be present and thankful right here, right now.” It’s a simple mantra, but one that brings immense comfort and perspective amidst the holiday rush.

Finding Peace and Letting Go of Holiday Perfection
It’s incredibly easy to succumb to self-imposed pressure during Christmas. As a child, I vividly remember feeling the pure magic emanating from the decorations, the anticipation of gifts, the delicious food, and the cherished traditions. I absolutely lived for it. Now, as an adult, I understand that much of that magic was meticulously crafted and brought to life by my mom. Mothers, indeed, are true Christmas rockstars – their dedication often goes unseen but is always deeply felt.

To all the mothers out there facing a seemingly endless to-do list, please know this: you are more than enough. You absolutely deserve moments to breathe, to rest, and to simply be. It’s important to acknowledge that the past year, and indeed the past couple of years, have presented unique challenges and hardships for many. It’s okay to cut yourself some slack.

In fact, it’s more than okay – it’s essential for your well-being. It’s perfectly fine to order takeout from your favorite Chinese restaurant when you’re simply too exhausted to cook. It’s completely acceptable if your house isn’t spotless, or if every single decoration isn’t perfectly placed. And yes, it’s absolutely fine if you need to let go of some long-standing family traditions this year to reduce stress and find more joy. The true spirit of Christmas lies not in flawless execution, but in love, presence, and peace.

In celebrating the Prince of Peace, it feels profoundly right to place “peace” itself at the very heart of that celebration. Consider the dining room: a space traditionally dedicated to gathering and feasting. By candlelight, the table settings take on an ethereal glow. A beautifully decorated centerpiece, perhaps with more candles and natural elements, becomes a focal point of quiet elegance. The Christmas tree in the corner, adorned with lights and ornaments, casts a gentle, festive aura that transforms the room into an inviting haven for intimate conversations and shared meals.

I have a sneaking suspicion that He would much rather we emulate Mary than Martha—choosing moments of stillness, listening, and being present over endless preparation and working ourselves to the bone. It’s a powerful reminder to step back from the frantic pace and embrace the quiet, reflective aspects of the season. To simply breathe deeply and tell ourselves, “I have done enough. I deserve to rest, to savor this moment.”

No matter what your Christmas looks like this year, no matter the journey you’ve navigated through the past months, I sincerely hope you can discover and embrace that profound sense of peace. I hope you grant yourself the grace to come as you are, perfectly imperfect, and allow the season to wash over you in its gentlest form.

The Profound Beauty of “The Wait” and Anticipation
If Christmas has imparted any profound lesson upon me over the years, it is this: the “wait” itself is often the most beautiful and transformative part. We frequently spend our lives in a state of longing – a long wait for life to feel “normal” again, for that new job opportunity, the arrival of a new baby, the dream home, or a fresh chapter. We tell ourselves, “When I finally reach [this new thing], then I’ll truly be happy.”

Yet, it is in that very “wait” that we are shaped, transformed, and taught invaluable lessons that simply arriving at a new chapter in the blink of an eye never could. And perhaps Christmas, with its inherent season of Advent, offers us a beautiful glimpse of that profound wait. For me, one of the absolute best parts of Christmas is the exhilarating anticipation. It’s the kind of excitement that keeps you awake on Christmas Eve, tossing and turning, knowing that wonderful things are just around the corner. It’s the thrill of counting down the days on the calendar until only “1 day left” remains.

You just *know* it’s going to be the best Christmas ever. That’s the truly good stuff, the rich tapestry of emotion and expectation. The wait is, whether we fully realize it or not, often the best part of Christmas and of life itself. These past two years, in particular, have been a testament to this, as so many of us have experienced a dose of loss, a measure of hurt, and an extended period of “waiting” – waiting for wounds to heal, for peace to return, for a chance to turn a new page, even if that next chapter looks drastically different from the one before.

Standing in our own decorated playroom, bathed in the gentle glow of the Christmas tree lights and soft fairy lights, one can almost feel the echoes of children’s laughter and the promise of new memories. The festive mantelpiece, adorned with playful and cozy decorations, invites a sense of warmth and childlike wonder, even in the quiet of the night.

I can hardly wait to witness the good things that are just around the corner. So, while these past couple of years have undoubtedly been incredibly challenging, my heart is filled with hope. Tomorrow is always a new day, brimming with fresh possibilities. I truly believe that the coming year will be a *good* year, perhaps even a great one.

We’ve had to endure the hard stuff, the messy bits, and the moments of struggle over these last two years to truly *get* to the good stuff, to fully appreciate it. This entire house, in its every room, stands as a constant reminder of that journey for me. These walls hold so much joy, so many cherished memories, so much of “the good stuff,” but none of it came into being without first navigating a significant amount of challenging, often messy, work.

These rooms have silently witnessed our family at our lowest points. They’ve seen moments where we were on the verge of giving up, almost throwing our hands in the air and declaring, “There’s no way we can do this.” But through it all, the hard stuff ultimately made the good stuff possible, making every moment of peace and joy earned and deeply cherished.

This journey has made moments of gathering around the table with the people I love truly fulfilling, imbued with a deeper appreciation for their presence. It makes those precious moments spent around the Christmas tree with family even more profoundly worthwhile, each twinkle light a symbol of resilience and shared joy. Even simple moments, like the breakfast nook dressed in its holiday finest, become imbued with extra special meaning by the soft glow of candlelight, setting the scene for intimate conversations and hearty laughter.

It took a considerable amount of waiting, a good deal of navigating through hard stuff, and many conscious choices to let go of the things that were disrupting our peace. Ultimately, there will never be a “perfect” home, a “perfect” family, a “perfect” year, or a “perfect” Christmas, and embracing that truth is incredibly liberating. I vividly recall my and Robert’s very first Christmas together in our tiny apartment – a place we could barely afford to rent. As we sat in our small living room, watching It’s a Wonderful Life beside our old secondhand Christmas tree, with only half its lights working and adorned with thrifted ornaments, I remember feeling an overwhelming sense of thankfulness. It was simple, imperfect, yet deeply joyful.
(Just look at this old photo I found of that very first tree! It brings back so many fond memories of where it all began.)

Because in that moment, it wasn’t about achieving a “perfect” Christmas. Everything I truly needed was right there beside me. I sometimes lose sight of that fundamental truth when this bustling season rolls around again, but that moment with our first humble tree and its powerful reminder of what’s truly important always finds its way back to me. Perfection is not a worthy pursuit; peace, however, absolutely is.

In the main living space, the centerpiece Christmas tree stands majestic, its myriad lights twinkling like captured stars. The surrounding decor, from garlands draped over the mantelpiece to subtle festive accents, gains a new depth and warmth under the soft, diffused light. This is the heart of the home, where families gather, stories are shared, and the quiet magic of Christmas truly settles in.

So, this year, I am consciously setting aside my Martha-like tendencies, choosing instead to be more like Mary. I am choosing tranquility over toil, presence over frantic preparation. I have done enough, because in the grand scheme of things, He has done everything I could ever need, giving us the ultimate gift of peace and grace. That realization alone allows me to rest in gratitude.

A Season of Hope, Kindness, and Giving from the Heart
Whatever this past year has held for you, my dear friends, I genuinely hope that you are able to feel the profound gift of peace above all else. I hope you can offer words of genuine kindness to that cashier in the grocery store who might truly need it today. I hope you can find a moment to drop by a local community pantry, offering a little extra to those who have less fortunate circumstances. Most importantly, I hope you can give a little piece of your heart, because there is truly no greater gift to bestow than that.

There is so much good waiting ahead for us, so long as we hold onto hope. Hope is the guiding star that illuminates our path, even through the darkest of nights. It is the quiet assurance that brighter days are coming, and that every challenge ultimately shapes us for the better. The soft glow of the fireplace, paired with the twinkling Christmas tree, serves as a beacon of this enduring hope, reminding us of warmth, family, and the promise of new beginnings.

Wishing you and yours ALL the merriest blessings this Christmas season! I am truly so thankful for *you*, for being a part of this community, and for sharing in this journey of home and heart.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13
