We are absolutely thrilled to unveil the complete makeover of our little princess’s nursery. This isn’t just any baby room; it’s a dream realized – a serene, all-white sanctuary infused with classic vintage charm, whimsical floral accents, and the timeless elegance inspired by Anthropologie’s signature aesthetic. As we prepare to welcome our newest family member, creating this peaceful haven has been a labor of love, designed to offer comfort and tranquility for both baby and parents alike.

For those who’ve been following our journey from the very beginning, you’ll recall the humble origins of this space. It started as a functional, albeit uninspired, spare bedroom when we moved into our home last year. The transformation has been truly remarkable, turning a blank canvas into a heartwarming space where countless precious memories will be made. Just take a look at where we started:

Having experienced the beautiful chaos of our first daughter Olivia’s infancy (back in the days when we lived above my parents’ garage), I knew I wanted this nursery to be different – a calm, soothing retreat for Baby Regan and for us as parents during those inevitable sleepless nights. The goal was to craft an environment that embraced softness, warmth, and timeless elegance, providing a peaceful backdrop for sweet snuggles and quiet moments.

The Foundation: Architectural Details & Floor-to-Ceiling Transformation

Stepping into this room now, it’s almost unrecognizable from its former self. Due to my limited physical state during pregnancy, some tasks required professional help. We brought in a contractor to expertly refinish the beautiful hardwood floors that had been hidden beneath old carpet. This decision laid a pristine, durable foundation for the room, adding instant classic appeal that a modern nursery truly benefits from. While we still have another carpeted room on our DIY list for the future, prioritizing this for the nursery was essential for cleanliness and aesthetics.

The success of this makeover lies in sticking remarkably close to my original vision, a feat I rarely achieve given my tendency to be swayed by exciting thrift store finds. But for Regan’s room, every piece was thoughtfully considered to create a cohesive and harmonious space.

The original sliding closet doors were a constant source of frustration, perpetually derailing and disrupting the peace we craved. To remedy this, Robert and I replaced them entirely, and I then applied my usual method for painting interior doors in the color Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray. This choice provides a subtle yet effective contrast against the Magnolia Home True White walls, maintaining a neutral palette while adding a touch of sophisticated definition. It’s a calming, understated hue that prevents the all-white scheme from feeling monotonous.

To introduce a much-needed layer of softness and to help with noise reduction (because a crying newborn at 2 AM echoing off hardwood floors is not anyone’s idea of fun!), we brought in this inviting gray and white area rug from eSaleRugs. Beyond its practical benefits for comfort and sound dampening, the rug’s subtle pattern adds another layer of texture without overwhelming the tranquil aesthetic. It grounds the space beautifully, inviting bare feet and little hands to explore its gentle embrace.

The Crib: A Happy Accident Turned Long-Term Solution

Initially, I had my heart set on a different vintage-style white metal crib. However, fate intervened when it went out of stock, with a delivery date far beyond Regan’s arrival. This led us to this fantastic convertible white metal crib. What started as a compromise turned into a fortunate discovery, as its convertible nature means we’ll be able to extend its use well into her toddler years, transforming it into a daybed or full-size bed. This smart investment perfectly aligns with our desire for timeless pieces that grow with our family.

For the bedding, prioritizing safety meant opting out of pillows and bulky bumpers. Instead, we chose a simple yet elegant combination: a soft pale pink print crib sheet and a charming ruffled crib skirt. These subtle feminine touches complement the overall design without being overly “girly.” And here’s a little tip that saved us countless times with Olivia: layer 2-3 alternating waterproof mattress pads and crib sheets on the mattress. If there’s a messy accident in the middle of the night, you can simply strip off the top layer without having to completely remake the bed while half-asleep and stressed. It’s a game-changer!

On a lighter note, a small confession: can you spot anything amusing about our bi-fold closet door knobs? In a classic “preggo brain” moment, I totally installed them incorrectly. Another valuable tip for future reference: knobs on bi-fold doors typically don’t open that way! It’s a quick fix, but a testament to the delightful mental fog that can accompany pregnancy.

For a convenient spot to keep essentials within arm’s reach while nursing, I utilized this charming garden stool, topped with an accent lamp for that perfect soft glow during nighttime feedings. We’ve also just added the incredible Hatch Sound Machine to this setup, which I’m incredibly excited about. Sound machines are an absolute lifesaver for ensuring any amount of sleep with a baby!

The Dresser: An IKEA Hack with Vintage Flair

For the first time in ages, I forewent my usual hunt for a thrifted dresser. My decision to opt for a new IKEA Hemnes dresser was practical: I wanted to avoid any lingering “thrift store smells” on delicate baby clothes, which can sometimes be an issue. The beauty of IKEA pieces, however, lies in their versatility. I transformed this functional dresser into a custom, vintage-inspired piece using elegant appliques from MyOverlays, a DIY that adds incredible character and a bespoke feel. Beside the dresser, I found this lidded hamper from HomeGoods, perfect for discreetly managing the inevitable pile of baby laundry. Interestingly, I just realized the subtle print on the metal hamper actually matches the print on the crib sheet – a completely unplanned, subconscious coordination! It seems my brain has a knack for harmonizing elements even when I’m not consciously aware of it.

To keep all changing essentials within easy reach, I repurposed a tiered fruit basket from the kitchen section of HomeGoods. A quick spray paint with Rustoleum Champagne Mist transformed it to perfectly match the elegant light fixture, adding a cohesive metallic touch. It holds two soap dispensers (one with lavender baby lotion, the other with hand sanitizer), alongside soft washcloths and a few teether toys to keep Regan occupied during changes.

Adjacent to this, I found these three lidded glass and ceramic canisters, also from the HomeGoods kitchen section. They’re ideal for neatly storing smaller baby items like hair bows, pacifiers, and Q-tips, keeping the changing area clutter-free and stylish.

To further enhance the brightness and spaciousness of the room, I hung this elegant round mirror from Target. There’s a very good chance that Regan will be our last baby, so this nursery holds a particularly bittersweet significance for me.
