We’ve seen our fair share of artificial Christmas trees over the years. The quality has improved
dramatically, making it increasingly difficult to distinguish between real and fake until you get
up close.
Best Sparse Christmas Tree
We bought this artificial sparse Christmas tree
for our living room four years ago, and we’re still completely happy. It’s a beautiful, budget-friendly
option. It’s the ultimate winner among “budget Christmas trees.”
If you love the charm of a sparse Christmas tree, this pre-lit option is perfect for small spaces,
staying under $300.
With 8-foot ceilings, the 7.5-foot option fits nicely, leaving room for a tree topper. Its slim
profile is ideal for smaller rooms.
The sparse, Alpine tree look works best with rustic, cottage, or Scandinavian decor. They’re easy to
decorate, looking beautiful even without ornaments if you prefer a minimalist style.
The wide spaces between branches make decorating easier than with other tree types.
The high-quality “pine needles” on its branches are rigid, yet slim, appearing lifelike up close.
This tree is much easier to assemble than others we’ve owned because the branch tips need minimal
fluffing each year.
It includes a foot pedal switch for the lights (though a smart plug
is even better).
Best Full Christmas Tree
We bought this full, fluffy
“Feel Real” Frasier Grande Christmas tree
in 2022 and were very happy with it. It filled our living room, which is why we didn’t keep it.
It was more “grande” than expected.
We added tinsel for nostalgia. You can see how realistic the needles look up close in the photo
below.
Best Flocked Christmas Tree
The best part of this
flocked Christmas tree
is how it makes colorful ornaments pop against the snowy branches.
If you prefer a neutral look, the white branches create a glamorous, almost metallic effect with
twinkle lights.
We loved using a flocked Christmas tree in our girls’ playroom with homemade ornaments collected
over the years.
The white flocking helps those mixed ornaments look cohesive with a little ribbon.
The flocking on this tree is thick and fluffy. It’s held up well in and out of the attic over four
years! It does require vacuuming underneath as the flocking tends to fall, but that’s expected.
Best Traditional Christmas Tree
This
traditional pre-lit Christmas tree
, a full but not “fat” spruce, works well if you prefer a standard tree.
If your family prefers white, colored, or twinkling LED lights, this tree has settings for all of
them so you can change the look with a button click.
Best Microdot Pre-Lit Christmas Tree
We bought this
Faux Twinkling Pre-Lit Norway Spruce
on sale this year, and it is the most gorgeous tree we’ve ever owned!
It is a pricier option. But for the best quality Christmas tree, it’s the ultimate winner.
Realistic Cheap Christmas Tree Tip
If you want a realistic fake tree but don’t want to spend over $200, buy an unlit tree and add
lights yourself.
It might take extra decorating time, but it can save money. It also allows you to add multicolor
lights for a retro look.
We used this
unlit sparse Christmas tree
a few years ago. It required extra decorating effort, but I loved the natural look, cheaper than the
pre-lit version
(though you can sometimes find it on sale).
We added lots of lights ourselves, making it extra glowy at night. Not a bad problem, right?
How to Make a Fake Tree Look Realistic
Here are more tips to make your artificial tree look real:
- Separate each branch tip to make the tree fuller.
- Add battery-powered candle lights to branch ends.
- Weave ribbon through the tree to hide gaps.
- Add artificial pine garland or picks to make it fuller.
- Use a tree collar to hide the metal stand (or use a basket or barrel planter).
- Hang
Scentsicles
to make it smell real!

The more, the merrier!
