Rustoleum Tub & Tile Refinishing Kit Review: Is It Worth It?
I get asked two main questions frequently:
- How well is the painted sink/countertop/tub/shower holding up?
- How do you make paint-splattered clothes look good?
Okay, I may be exaggerating about one of those. 😉
It’s been eight months since I finished our upstairs bathroom makeover (primarily used by my daughter, but also for guests). I figured that was enough time to give the painted surfaces a good test and see how they’ve held up.
If you missed the before and after, here’s what the sink and countertop looked like *before*…

And here’s the tub/shower combo before the transformation:

I wasn’t a fan of that beige faux marble. However, with other more pressing budget concerns, I opted for a quick, affordable, and straightforward solution: a Phase 1 makeover until a full renovation was possible.
So, I painted everything with the Rustoleum Tub and Tile Refinishing Kit. I used four kits in total.

The process was quite smelly, so I won’t be tackling it in our other bathroom now that I’m pregnant. It took me a full Saturday to paint the sink and countertop and another Saturday for the tub and shower.
You can find the entire process, including helpful tips, here.
The first coat was a little terrifying, to be honest!

But the results were totally worth it.

We completed this entire bathroom makeover for less than $500, without any plumbing, electrical, tile, or major construction work.
So, let’s talk about how it’s held up over time.
8 Months Later…

Still looking great!
The countertop and sink still look practically new.

The only minor issue is the drain. I couldn’t get it perfectly clean from the start, as some paint seeped under the tape. However, the drain was quite old to begin with, so I can’t complain too much.
There’s also a slight pink stain in the sink bowl from my daughter’s toothpaste. I’m switching her to a clear toothpaste brand to avoid future staining.

I originally had a planter on the counter, which caused two small chips in the paint.
But overall, I’m thrilled, considering my daughter climbs on the countertop frequently to brush her hair, brush her teeth, have “pool parties” with her Barbies, and everything else a five-year-old does.

The tub and shower have also held up really well.

My daughter splashes her toys around in here every night during bath time, and we’ve bathed our dogs in it a few times.
The only damage to report is a few scratches in one specific spot at the bottom.

Overall, I’d happily spend two Saturdays painting it all over again. Not bad for a budget-friendly DIY project, right? I’m just so glad I don’t have to look at the beige anymore.
And if you’re wondering, the painted tile grout is still looking great as well.

I plan to revisit other projects we’ve done and share updates with you.
Next on my update list is the laundry room vinyl peel and stick floor since I get asked about that one frequently, too… besides the secret to making DIYer clothes look fashionable. 😉
What other projects around the house would you like updates on? Let me know.
