We are officially in the final, thrilling, and slightly terrifying month of this incredible pregnancy journey! Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday we shared the exciting news, and now, here we are, counting down the last precious weeks until we meet our newest family member. Time truly has a way of accelerating when you’re expecting, and with a second child on the way, it feels like it’s flown by at warp speed!
Embracing the Final Weeks: Our 34-Week Pregnancy Journey Update
You might have noticed a bit of a silence on the “bumpdate” front, and there are a couple of honest reasons for that:
- Second Baby Syndrome is Real: With our first, every week was meticulously documented with bump photos and detailed updates. This time around? The focus shifts. Life with a toddler keeps you on your toes, and sometimes, those weekly photo sessions just don’t happen. The charm of novelty is replaced by the beautiful chaos of an already growing family.
- A Whirlwind of Life: Beyond the daily joys and challenges of parenting, we’ve been immersed in a flurry of projects, family adventures, and unexpected twists. Between home renovations, travel plans, and simply trying to keep all the plates spinning, the weeks have melted into months. Honestly, we feel both incredibly excited and entirely unprepared for the grand arrival!

Counting Down to Baby Bean’s Arrival
In approximately four weeks, Robert, Olivia, and I will be welcoming our sweet “baby bean” – who is now significantly larger than any bean you’ve ever seen! The nursery is coming together (slowly but surely!), the tiny clothes are being washed, and we’re all bubbling with a mix of anticipation and nerves. Olivia is thrilled about becoming a big sister, often talking to my belly and sharing her toys, which melts my heart every single time.
I would be less than honest if I told you I was a picture of serene composure, gracefully gliding through these final weeks, lovingly gazing at our beautifully prepared, yet still empty, crib. The reality is a little more… raw. This final stretch is a fascinating blend of profound joy, intense physical discomfort, and a healthy dose of anxiety about the unknown, especially with balancing a newborn and a spirited toddler.

Navigating Body Image and Social Media Traps During Pregnancy
Can I be truly candid with you for a moment? (Though, let’s be real, when am I not?). This pregnancy journey has presented a significant personal struggle with loving my changing body. It’s a challenge many expectant mothers face, yet one that often remains unspoken. There’s an unspoken pressure, especially amplified by the curated realities of social media.
A word of caution: if you want to protect your peace of mind, avoid searching the hashtag #LTKbump on Instagram. Seriously, don’t do it. It’s a digital rabbit hole leading straight to comparisons with seemingly perfect maternity models who appear to have only gained weight in their baby bump, effortlessly bouncing back with nary a stretch mark in sight. While beautiful, these images often represent an unrealistic ideal that can chip away at our self-esteem during a time when we need it most.
So far on this incredible baby-growing adventure, I’ve gained 42 pounds. This is despite my best efforts to maintain a healthy lifestyle, working out and eating nutritiously whenever possible. (With my first pregnancy, I gained 55 pounds). It’s a number that can be disheartening when society often pressures women to ‘bounce back’ immediately. But here’s the crucial truth I remind myself of daily: this will be worth it. Every single pound, every change, every discomfort is a testament to the miracle happening within. Those extra pounds are temporary, a beautiful vessel for new life, and they won’t be there forever. What remains is a precious new soul.

Beyond the Perfect Picture: Embracing the Reality of Pregnancy
I share this raw truth with you – whether you’re an expectant mama, navigating the postpartum period, or simply a woman who occasionally struggles with self-image – because I never want you to look at these seemingly perfect maternity photos and assume my life is without its real, unglamorous moments. Behind every posed smile, there’s a reality we often don’t see.
My world right now is a tapestry woven with stretch marks, persistent back pain that makes even simple tasks a chore, and the inevitable cellulite that seems to appear overnight. If you let it, the constant focus on these physical changes can consume you. It’s a battle against societal expectations and our own inner critics. But overwhelmingly, beyond all of that, it is a world overflowing with profound thankfulness for those sweet, fluttering belly nudges and the powerful kicks that remind me of the vibrant life thriving within.
I am acutely aware that countless women across the globe would give absolutely anything to experience the miracle of pregnancy, even just once. Their journeys, often heartbreaking, reinforce my deep sense of gratitude. Therefore, I make a conscious effort to not take this precious gift for granted. Every ache, every stretch mark, every moment of discomfort is a reminder of the incredible privilege it is to carry and nurture a new life.

The Unifying Power of Motherhood
Being a mom, in any of its beautiful forms, is undeniably challenging. Whether you are a birth mom, an adoptive mom, a foster mom, a traditional mom, or a mom grieving angel babies – the path is paved with sacrifices, sleepless nights, and moments that push you to your absolute limits. Yet, despite the inherent difficulties, it is also one of the most profoundly rewarding and enriching titles you could ever hold. The depth of love, the resilience you discover, and the joy of watching a child grow are unparalleled.
Over the past eight months, God has blessed me with connections to incredible women who embody motherhood in all these diverse categories. I am constantly amazed and inspired by each and every one of them. Their stories are testaments to the universal truth that love is love. It transcends biology, circumstances, and expectations. He truly is amazing at showing us this through countless unconditional ways, weaving plans so perfectly tailored for each of us, each family, each unique journey. These connections remind me that we are never alone in our struggles or our triumphs.

Finding Your Own Beauty: A Mother’s Perspective
That reflection staring back at you from the mirror does not define your worth. Your true beauty, your strength, and your character are forged by your mindset and how you choose to navigate the world each day. It’s about how you respond to challenges, how you spread kindness, and how you nurture those around you.
For me, the most profound measure of beauty comes from how my daughter (and soon, daughters) see me. I will always prioritize being a loving, present, and authentic mother over any fleeting physical imperfection I might perceive in myself. Sometimes, amidst all our incredible ‘mama superpowers’ – our ability to multitask, to comfort, to love fiercely – our greatest weakness lies in our inability to truly recognize our own inherent beauty. We are often our harshest critics, overlooking the incredible strength and grace that motherhood bestows upon us.

It’s vital to remember that the perfectly curated lives we scroll through on Instagram or Facebook are often just a highlight reel. You might never know that those women, in their impeccably styled photo shoots, are grappling with the exact same insecurities and inability to find self-love as you are. We are all human, all imperfectly perfect, and all deserving of compassion – especially from ourselves.
As Psalm 139:14 beautifully reminds us, “You are beautiful for you are fearfully and wonderfully made.” This truth transcends every stretch mark, every extra pound, and every societal expectation. It is a profound affirmation of our inherent worth and the divine design within each of us.

Anticipating a New Chapter: Rest, Recovery, and Relishing Blessings
So, in just a few short weeks, this corner of the internet might become a little quieter than usual. We’ll be fully immersed in a beautiful new phase of life, learning the rhythm of a family of four. It will be a time of sleepless nights, endless snuggles, and undoubtedly, a whole new journey of learning to love this postpartum ‘mom bod’ as it continues its incredible transformation.
But amidst the beautiful chaos, we’ll be here, counting tiny fingers and toes, marveling at every new sound and expression, and cherishing our many, many blessings. The joy of a newborn is incomparable, and we are so ready to embrace every single moment of it, messy and magnificent as it will be. We’re preparing for a period of rest, recovery, and simply relishing the magic of new life.

P.S. For any fellow expectant mamas curious about my maternity dresses: both of the specific colors I’m wearing are currently sold out. However, you can often find similar styles from the same boutique where I purchased mine by checking their new arrivals or browsing their maternity section for affiliate links.
We truly love sharing this personal journey with all of you, our wonderful community. Your support, encouragement, and shared experiences mean the world to us. Thank you for being a part of our story as we prepare for this exciting new chapter.
BIG hugs!
