When Olivia requested a “vintage” and “old school” style bedroom, the Swedish cottage theme naturally came to mind. This project was a delight,
allowing a creative freedom to design a room that is both stylish and personalized.

Wallpaper: Setting the Tone
The heart of this room’s charm is the Sandberg Ragnvi wallpaper from Scandinavian Wallpaper.
This wallpaper is a vintage print revival from Sweden, evoking a sense of heritage and style.
To add another layer of interest, we incorporated a block print faux wallpaper on the ceiling using bird decals as a nod to Olivia’s childhood. The
addition of beadboard below the chair rail, and trim with Sherwin Williams Smoky Blue, enhances the overall aesthetic.
Rug: Adding a Modern Touch
To balance the floral wallpaper, a multicolored plaid rug was added for a contemporary contrast.
This rug’s soft texture and low-maintenance design make it perfect for a bedroom, and its many colors help bring in other accents.
Bedding: Playing with Patterns
The bedding introduces a playful element, with a stitched geometric quilt, a subtle floral duvet cover, and warm-toned pillows.
The yellow embroidered sheets provide a final girly touch to complete the look.
Windows: Balancing the Blues
Mauve velvet curtains and blackout Roman shades in Bonaire Flaxen balance the blue tones, adding depth and warmth to the room.
Bed: Keeping it Simple
To save on the budget, the existing platform bed was kept. The old headboard was swapped for a new scalloped headboard.
Nightstands: Function and Style
Classic stained nightstands with modern functionality were chosen to provide storage and a space for cords and chargers. The modern brass and rattan
lamps added a hint of Scandinavian style.
A vintage style Bluetooth radio gives the room a cozy feel.
Homework Station / Vanity: Dual-Purpose Design
A Craigslist find desk, painted in Sherwin Williams Anew Gray, doubles as both a homework station and a vanity. A restored chair with a new seat
and a black and brass desk lamp completes the setup.
Doors: Simple Updates
Antique-style door knobs replaced the 80s-style brass knobs, and updating the hinges with Rub ‘n Buff gave them a fresh look.
Fandelier: Style and Functionality
A wicker fandelier provides both light and a ceiling fan, offering a practical yet stylish alternative to a traditional ceiling fan.
Dresser: A Statement Piece
The gorgeous burl wood dresser adds a touch of sophistication. Restor-A-Finish was used to remove scratches, bringing the dresser back to life.
Art: Adding Personality
Antique altered portraits add personality and reflect Olivia’s playful character.
A thrift store mirror, Rub ‘n Buffed to perfection, and a budget-friendly Anthropologie-inspired lamp and fake hydrangeas.
