Colonial Holiday Entrance

Christmas has arrived in the foyer, and it’s a sight to behold!

Ever since we revamped the space with DIY stair wainscoting,
a fresh coat of muted green paint, and
a gallery wall adorned with antique brass frames this fall, I’ve been eager to
infuse this area with holiday cheer.

This year marks the first time in two years that I’ve been able to completely
transform this space with a fresh new look, and I’m absolutely thrilled with
the results.

Embracing Natural Christmas Decor Elements

I drew inspiration from the styles of Colonial Williamsburg, “Little Women,”
and “A Christmas Carol.” To achieve this, I incorporated
dried orange slices
into the garlands, using wire ornament hooks for a classic touch.

Adding natural elements
to artificial garlands, wreaths, and trees is a simple yet effective way to
enhance their realism. It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes.

A few months ago, I gel-stained
this cabinet a rich coffee color. It was undoubtedly the right decision.

To further enhance the traditional decor, I placed a charming

Additionally, I selected this exquisite

The Magic of Battery-Operated Christmas Lights & Candles

Given that there aren’t any readily accessible outlets in this space, I’ve
incorporated various battery-operated Christmas lights
throughout.

These flameless twisted taper candlesticks
have a vintage aesthetic, but they’re battery-powered, removing any concerns
about open flames, particularly with children around. The best part? They can
be set on a timer, eliminating the need to remember to light them each evening.

I’ve had these candles for three Christmas seasons now, and they’ve held up
perfectly!

My go-to realistic Christmas garland
doesn’t come pre-lit, so I always add a string of
battery-operated twinkle lights.

I usually conceal the battery pack beneath the greenery, weaving the light
strand through the leaves, and securing them by twisting around branches.

For the garland on our stair railing, I positioned the battery pack on the floor,
right beneath the garland’s trailing edge.

To attach the garland to the railing, I use these
decorative twist ties,
ensuring they blend seamlessly with the decor.

I apply the same technique to our doorway garland, attaching the twinkle
light battery pack to the wall using a
Command velcro hanging strip.

This placement perfectly frames our
dining room Christmas tree
and is my favorite view each year.

The battery pack tucked behind the garland on the wall is practically invisible.
Those twinkle lights undeniably make a significant difference.

The Finishing Touch: Christmas Bows

Adding
burgundy velvet ribbon
with a few bows to the greenery adds a delightful pop of color.

I considered
adding Christmas bows to picture frames
on the gallery wall, but opted for a simpler approach. (And less is always
better when it comes to post-holiday cleanup!)

It required some refinement and adjustments, allowing us to evolve our style.
Since our home is, in fact, a colonial, a colonial traditional Christmas decor
just feels right.
