Elevate Your Christmas Entryway: Free Winter Evergreen Botanical Prints & Festive Decor Ideas

The holiday season is a magical time, and transforming your home into a festive wonderland doesn’t have to wait. While some prefer to patiently await Thanksgiving, I’m wholeheartedly embracing the Christmas spirit a little early this year! Call it Buddy the Elf-level enthusiasm, but there’s a certain joy in getting a head start on holiday preparations. Today, I’m thrilled to share how I’ve styled our entryway bench with charming seasonal accents, centered around a gorgeous DIY winter botanical gallery wall, complete with a free downloadable set of evergreen botanical prints just for you.

My journey to early holiday decorating began a couple of years ago when I broke my self-imposed “no Christmas before Thanksgiving” rule. What I discovered was pure bliss: finishing holiday to-do lists early allows more time to genuinely enjoy December with my family—Robert, Olivia, and I—without the last-minute stress of crowded malls and tangled lights. It’s a game-changer for a more relaxed and joyful season.

The Heart of the Home: A Welcoming Christmas Entryway

Your entryway is the first impression guests get of your home, and during the holidays, it sets the tone for the entire festive experience. A beautifully decorated entryway doesn’t just welcome visitors; it creates a warm, inviting atmosphere for those who live there every day. This year, my focus was on natural elegance, combining timeless botanical art with cozy textures to create a space that feels both festive and serene.

I’m also excited to be part of Kristen of Ella Claire Inspired’s annual Christmas Printable Hop! This collaboration brings together some of the most talented home bloggers to share a treasure trove of free holiday printables. (If you missed it, you can check out last year’s contribution here.) It’s a fantastic way to discover unique, budget-friendly decor to infuse your home with holiday cheer.

Introducing Your Free Winter Evergreen Botanical Prints

Earlier this year, I discovered the transformative power of a botanical gallery wall using summer greenery prints. It quickly became a beloved seasonal tradition to swap out the artwork, reflecting the changing foliage outside. From vibrant spring blossoms to rich autumn hues (I shared a set of fall botanicals in September), this system keeps our decor fresh and relevant. So, naturally, a winter botanical set was an absolute must-have!

These prints feature simple, fresh evergreen botanicals, intentionally designed without any red accents. This thoughtful detail means they’re incredibly versatile and can beautifully adorn your walls not just through Christmas, but all the way through February. Imagine crisp, natural greens gracing your home, offering a serene backdrop to the festive bustle and a refreshing visual long after the New Year.

Crafting Your Botanical Gallery Wall: Frames & Seasonal Swaps

Creating a stunning gallery wall is simpler and more affordable than you might think. For these prints, I used these 16×20 frames from Michael’s, which I picked up earlier this year for about $12 each during a sale. Despite their incredibly low price point, they offer a convincing wood-look finish, even up close! They’re actually plastic poster frames, an excellent budget-friendly alternative that also comes in black, white wood, and gray wood options.

Seasonal Decorating Made Easy

One of my favorite aspects of this botanical gallery wall concept is its practicality. I keep all my seasonal print sets – summer, fall, and winter – within the frames themselves. This means no extra storage space is needed! When the mood strikes, or the seasons change, I simply rotate the prints. It’s an effortless way to refresh your decor throughout the year. I’m even contemplating whipping up a set with delicate spring blossoms come March to complete the annual cycle. This simple system makes seasonal transitions seamless and enjoyable.

Your Guide to Printing Large-Scale Botanical Art

For those who desire larger-than-life artwork without the hefty price tag, printing these botanicals as 16×20 engineer prints is a fantastic solution. I typically send my images to Staples, where color engineer prints cost around $3 each. The visual impact of these large prints is incredible, making the small effort entirely worthwhile. Of course, for ultimate convenience, you can always print them as standard 8x10s right from your home printer.

Step-by-Step Staples Printing Instructions:

  • First, download your desired botanical prints from the Bless’er House Printable Library (your password is in your subscriber email).
  • Navigate to Staples.com.
  • Click “shop services” > “print services” > “engineering prints” > “18”x24”” > “design now” > “engineering prints in color.”
  • Select “add files” and upload your botanical print images.
  • Choose “orientation” > portrait.
  • Proceed by clicking “add to cart” > “proceed to checkout.”
  • Crucial tip: In the notes section of your order, make sure to write “do not scale to fit.” This ensures the image prints at its intended 16″x20″ size, as Staples sometimes defaults to scaling even when not specified.

Important Printing Tips & Alternatives:

*A note on Staples availability: Some readers have reported that their local Staples may not offer engineer prints (this can vary by location). If you encounter this, a reliable alternative is OvernightPrints.com, which provides similar services.

Alternatively, if you prefer to keep things simple, you can print the botanicals directly from your home computer as 8x10s. These fit perfectly into 8×10 frames, or you can use larger frames with a mat for a more substantial look. Despite the initial “technical mumbo jumbo,” taking these steps guarantees beautiful, large-scale art that will enhance your home for years to come.

Styling Your Christmas Entryway Bench

The foundation of our festive entryway is our beloved $35 Craigslist bench – a true bargain find that I wish I could replicate for all of you! To dress it up for the holidays, I primarily relied on items I already owned, focusing on a neutral base with pops of seasonal color. This approach not only saves money but also encourages creativity with what you already have.

Building a Versatile Decor Capsule

My strategy revolves around a decor wardrobe capsule – a collection of versatile, neutral pieces that can be easily adapted for any season. For this entryway, that includes items like classic lanterns, plain white and canvas pillows, and water hyacinth baskets that neatly store shoes and other everyday essentials. These foundational pieces provide a calm, cohesive backdrop for seasonal accents.

Adding Festive Touches

To infuse Christmas cheer, I layered in a few key holiday pieces. A cozy red cable knit throw from Target instantly adds warmth and a vibrant festive color. I also incorporated a festive pillow cover from Linen and Ivory, slipped over an existing pillow insert from my stash. These small, impactful additions transform the space without overwhelming it, creating a balance between everyday comfort and holiday magic.

Embracing the Holiday Spirit Early

My goal this year is to minimize new purchases and truly leverage what we already possess. It’s a challenge, given my boundless excitement for all things festive (and a confessed love for smiling, because smiling’s my favorite!). However, the satisfaction of creating a beautiful, festive home primarily using existing decor and thoughtfully chosen, versatile pieces is immense. It allows the focus to remain on family, tradition, and the joy of the season, rather than commercialism.

Beyond the Entryway: Other Festive Touches

Of course, the “use what we already have” goal is always a work in progress! On a recent IKEA visit, I stumbled upon these irresistible $12 boxwood wreaths. They’re perfect for adding a touch of Christmas to our living room’s French doors, and I already have plans to embellish them even further. So, while I may not be perfectly adhering to my own rule, an “A for effort” feels deserved, wouldn’t you agree? Haha!

Here are all the sources for the items I used in this space, should you wish to recreate this festive look:

  • “Wood” gallery wall frames
  • Red cable knit throw blanket
  • Cream pleated pillow
  • Canvas pleated ruffle pillow (similar; mine was around $20 at HomeGoods)
  • Lanterns
  • Water hyacinth baskets (similar)
  • Water hyacinth tray (similar)
  • Birch logs (similar)
  • Faux cedar garland
  • Faux boxwood wreaths (available in person at IKEA; these are similar online but not as budget-friendly)
  • White curtains
  • Wall paint color: Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee
  • Door paint color: Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron
