Enchanted Holiday Evenings 2019

Magical Christmas Nights: A Twinkle Light & Candlelight Home Tour & The Power of Anticipation

As the holiday season reaches its peak, our home transforms into a haven of warmth and wonder. The presents are lovingly wrapped, the hustle and bustle of preparations are winding down, and it’s time to truly savor the magic of Christmas. Before I step away to enjoy some cherished, unplugged moments with my beloved family, I wanted to share one of the most enchanting aspects of this time of year: the soft, ethereal glow of twinkle lights and the comforting flicker of candlelight that bathes our home in a festive embrace. More than just decor, these luminous details invite us to reflect on the deeper meaning of the season, particularly the quiet power of anticipation.

There’s a unique serenity that descends upon the house once the sun sets and the only illumination comes from hundreds of tiny lights and the gentle dance of candle flames. It’s a moment when time seems to slow, inviting introspection and gratitude. This year, I’m thrilled to open our doors for a special nighttime tour, showcasing how simple lighting can elevate our holiday decor and create an unforgettable ambiance. Join me as we wander through each space, allowing the soft glow to guide us, and delve into a heartfelt conversation about the journey of life and the beauty found in waiting.

A Glimpse into Our Candlelit Christmas Home

Stepping into our home during these magical Christmas nights feels like entering a different world. The ordinary fades, replaced by a symphony of gentle light and cozy comfort. Our dining room, in particular, becomes a true showstopper. The soft illumination from the Christmas tree in the corner, combined with flickering candles on the table and sideboard, casts intricate shadows and highlights the festive decor, creating an inviting atmosphere that beckons you to linger. It’s a view that consistently captures my heart and truly embodies the spirit of the season.

The foyer and staircase are equally enchanting. Adorned with garlands and strings of twinkle lights, the staircase becomes a majestic pathway. It’s almost surreal to think that in just a few short days, our girls, Regan and Olivia, will be excitedly scampering down these very stairs, their faces alight with wonder to discover what Santa has left. This particular image always brings a smile to my face, imagining their joyous morning. As a child, Christmas morning was undeniably the absolute best moment of the entire year. The sheer thrill of waking up to presents under the tree was unmatched.

Embracing the Journey: The True Gift of Anticipation

However, as I’ve grown older, my perspective has beautifully shifted. While the joy of Christmas Day remains profound, I’ve come to deeply appreciate and savor the days and weeks leading up to it. The gentle build-up, the quiet excitement, the collective hum of anticipation – these moments, for me, have become even more precious than the destination itself. It’s in this waiting that a unique kind of magic resides, a sentiment that has deepened with each passing year.

The excitement and anticipation before Christmas, I’ve found, often surpasses the joy of any physical gift that could ever sit under the twinkling tree. It’s the hopeful longing, the quiet imagining, the shared thrill with my children. This realization isn’t exclusive to Christmas; it’s a profound truth that resonates throughout life. The journey itself, with all its twists, turns, and unexpected detours, so often proves to be the most enriching and rewarding part of any destination. This simple yet powerful revelation has become a guiding principle in my life, helping me find beauty in every step.

I know this sentiment might sound cliché, yet it holds a profound truth for me. These thoughts often surface in the quiet sanctity of our home, long after our precious girls are tucked cozily into their beds. It’s during these moments, when the world outside finally seems to slow its relentless pace, that I find the space to truly reflect on the day, the past year, and the beautiful tapestry of our lives. The soft glow of the Christmas lights acts as a gentle backdrop to these introspective moments, fostering a deep sense of peace and gratitude.

My heart overflows with immense thankfulness. I am grateful for our beautiful home, a sanctuary filled with laughter and love. I am thankful for my husband, Robert, and the enduring strength of our marriage. Our sweet girls, Regan and Olivia, are the greatest blessings, bringing endless joy and light into our lives. Good health for our family is a gift we never take for granted, and having our loved ones nearby enriches our everyday existence. Beyond these immediate blessings, I am also profoundly grateful for the entire journey that has brought us to this very moment.

The Winding Path: Finding Blessings in Every Season

This journey has been marked by many seasons, each with its own unique lessons and gifts. I recall the two years we lived with my parents after Olivia was born, a time when Robert and I were still finding our footing and couldn’t fully support ourselves independently. While challenging, that period taught us humility, resilience, and the invaluable support of family.

Then came the exhilarating milestone: Robert graduated from college, we both secured steady jobs, and exactly six years ago, almost to this very day in December, we became first-time homeowners. That achievement felt monumental, a testament to hard work and shared dreams. Our journey into homeownership wasn’t without its bumps, however. We made countless mistakes, learning valuable (and sometimes frustrating) lessons with every DIY project. More arguments were probably sparked over home improvements than any other topic!

Each step, each decision, no matter how small, has woven itself into the fabric of our lives. Moving into this current house, for instance, was driven by a desire to be closer to family and to provide more space for our growing girls to thrive and play. It was a leap of faith that has truly paid off.

And then there was the arrival of our sweet little Regan, a joy beyond measure, followed by a challenging year where both she and I faced health struggles. These trials tested our strength but also deepened our faith and reliance on one another. Even Robert’s decision to leave his corporate job to run this blog alongside me, a bold step into the unknown, has been a significant part of our evolution.

Undeniably, every one of these experiences presented its own set of challenges. There were days of doubt, moments of exhaustion, and periods of intense struggle. Yet, looking back now, I wouldn’t change a single thing. Those tough days and those hard years were instrumental in shaping us, in forging the individuals we are today. They meticulously prepared us for the abundant blessings and meaningful work we now enjoy. It’s a powerful reminder that even in the midst of difficulty, growth is taking place, preparing us for what lies ahead.

The Magic of Waiting: Trusting the Divine Plan

There were certainly times when I yearned to fast-forward, when I fervently prayed for the very things we possess today. But a profound realization has emerged: it was often in the moments I least expected it, or during periods of what felt like endless waiting, that I encountered the greatest and most transformative blessings. It’s a testament to divine timing, a gentle nudge reminding us that the universe often has a more intricate and beautiful plan than we could ever conceive.

So, here we stand, just a handful of days away from Christmas. I know our daughter Olivia, much like I did at her age, is undoubtedly ready to hit that fast-forward button, eager for the main event. Yet, I want to gently remind myself, and all of you, that there is an undeniable, deep magic nestled within these waiting days. It’s in the anticipation, the longing, the preparations, and the slow unfolding of the season that true joy can be found. It’s a precious gift, if only we choose to embrace it.

My dear friend, wherever you are in your journey, whatever struggles you might be navigating this holiday season, please hold onto the truth that there is an abundance of good to be found in the waiting. Your “Christmas” – that momentous day or significant turning point you’re eagerly anticipating – will undoubtedly arrive, bringing with it immense joy, profound relief, and boundless love. But please, don’t rush these “before” days away.

Before you find that life partner, before you welcome that precious baby, before you land your dream job, before you purchase that perfect home – know that where you stand right now is precisely where you are meant to be. It is part of a grander, more beautiful design. One day, you will look back on these very moments and realize that you couldn’t have planned it more perfectly yourself. It requires a measure of trust, an unwavering belief, and a willingness to dig deep to unearth the blessings hidden within the quiet moments of anticipation and patience.

The coming year holds so much promise, my friend, and its goodness will largely depend on your choice to actively seek and find the good in every circumstance. Choose joy, choose gratitude, and choose to believe in the unfolding beauty of your own unique story.

It has introduced me to so many incredible individuals who share my passion for creating a home – a place where family flourishes, friends feel welcomed, and love is generously shared. Because truly, it is within the walls of such homes that we begin to change the world, one loving interaction at a time.
