Our Vinyl Tile’s 10-Month Durability Test

Durable Vinyl Tile: A 10-Month Review & Easy Installation Guide

Thinking of upgrading your floors? Looking for a stylish yet budget-friendly option? This is a review of our experience with peel-and-stick vinyl tile, sharing how it’s held up in our high-traffic laundry room after 10 months.

Last year, we decided to give our dated vinyl sheet flooring a quick and trendy makeover using patterned vinyl tiles. It’s been a popular project, and people often ask how it’s holding up. We often take on DIY projects, and we’re always curious to see if our hard work will stand the test of time.

We’ve had great experiences with similar DIY projects, like our concrete countertops and painted bathroom fixtures, and this vinyl tile project proved to be another success!

Here’s a look at the laundry room before its transformation:

The original flooring was in need of a serious update, but we opted for a quick fix – a solution we could live with until we were ready for a full renovation.

Many of us have big home improvement plans for the future. That doesn’t mean you have to settle for spaces that don’t make you happy in the meantime. A few years is a long time to feel uninspired by a room you use daily.

Let’s dive into how our vinyl tile has performed after 10 months. We’ve certainly put it through its paces!

This floor has endured a lot – mud, dirt, leaves, damp towels, and even puddles from a plumbing mishap. It’s handled it all.

We’ve had to slide our heavy washer and dryer across the floor multiple times due to mechanical issues. Electricians also moved them to access the fuse box. There’s even a scuff mark in front of the washing machine as evidence!

The good news? The vinyl tile has proven to be incredibly durable! We also saved our leftover tiles, so we can easily replace any damaged ones.

Choosing tiles over sheet vinyl was a great decision. If a tile gets damaged, we can easily replace just that one without having to replace the entire floor.

Maintenance is simple. I sweep the floor as needed and use a squirt and mop cleaner for deeper cleaning. Not a single tile has lifted or shows any signs of wear and tear.

We can still see some of the original sheet vinyl peeking through the “grout lines” because the room isn’t perfectly square, and the tiles weren’t a perfect fit. But it’s barely noticeable unless you’re specifically looking for it.

The best way to clean vinyl tile floors

We’re so impressed with the durability of the vinyl tile, we’ve considered using it in our bathrooms or kitchen. However, since those rooms already have tile, we’ll probably stick with freshening the grout for now.

If those rooms had vinyl, though, we’d definitely use this solution again!

While vinyl tile is more expensive than painting a vinyl floor, it’s much quicker, with no fumes or curing time. And if you want to change the style later, it’s easy to remove and replace!

I have to admit that this room makeover has made doing laundry a more pleasant experience.
