Unveiling Our New Home

In the whirlwind of life’s unpredictable currents, change often brings forth a flurry of questions, anxieties, and, ultimately, immense excitement. The last time I offered an update on our family’s journey, many of you were left with a multitude of queries, understandable given the significant shift we were undergoing. Questions like, “Why did you sell the house you just finished pouring your heart into?” and “Where are you headed next?” filled my inbox, alongside curious inquiries about why we couldn’t yet share glimpses of our new abode, and of course, the ever-pressing “When will you finally move in?”

Indeed, there were many cliffhangers, and to be entirely transparent, I still can’t unravel every single mystery surrounding this move. We are, after all, very much in the thick of it – a delightful, albeit sometimes chaotic, period of transition. However, my commitment to you, our wonderful community, has always been to offer an honest, unfiltered peek into our real lives. So, without further ado, allow me to pull back the curtain just a little further and share exactly where we find ourselves today.

Before diving into the intricate details of our decision-making and the ongoing adventures, it’s only right that I properly introduce you to the newest member of our family – a stunning, new-to-us brick Colonial home.

Discovering Our Charming New Brick Colonial Home

Isn’t it absolutely darling? The moment we laid eyes on it, we knew it possessed a unique charm and character that immediately resonated with us. Just the other day, during a crucial inspection visit, I managed to sneak in a few quick snapshots of the exterior. While I’m bursting with anticipation to share the interior, the current owners are still in the process of moving out, so those cherished inside tours will have to wait until we officially close and can truly call it our own. But rest assured, a comprehensive interior reveal will be a top priority on our blog as soon as we settle in!

Addressing Your Burning Questions About Our Big Move

So, let’s get straight to those pressing questions that have been on so many of your minds.

Why Did You Sell Your First House? Our Quest for More Space and Character

For those who might have missed it, you can delve deeper into the full story in a previous post, but in essence, our decision was driven by a yearning for specific lifestyle enhancements. We desired a larger yard, a property enveloped by more mature trees, the comforting embrace of an older, well-established neighborhood, and crucially, a location that brought us closer to both my and Robert’s parents. Our new home wonderfully checks all these boxes and offers so much more.

Beyond the practical considerations, there was also an underlying desire for a new creative challenge. After three years of hands-on experience in our last house, transforming it from a builder-grade canvas into a charming farmhouse retreat, we felt ready to elevate our skills. Tackling an older house, with its inherent character and unique quirks, felt like the natural next step in our home improvement journey. It’s as if we’ve successfully navigated the training wheels phase and are now eager to take on a more complex, rewarding project that truly tests and expands our renovation expertise. This move signifies not just a change of address, but an exciting evolution in our DIY adventures, promising new lessons and triumphs.

Where Exactly Are You Moving To? Maintaining a Sense of Privacy

This has undoubtedly been one of the most frequently asked questions, and while I truly wish I could share every minute detail, we’ve made a conscious decision to maintain a certain level of privacy for our family. In this digital age, it feels important to keep some aspects of our personal lives, like our specific neighborhood or precise location, just for us. We’re not quite ready to put all our ‘business’ out there on the vast expanse of the internet for everyone to scrutinize.

After all, if I did reveal every specific, any casual passerby might just decide to drop by for a dip in our pool! Kidding, of course… mostly. 😉 Yes, you heard that right! We have a pool! A feature we absolutely adore and can’t wait to enjoy. While we won’t be disclosing the exact street name or neighborhood, I can confirm that we are staying within the same general area in South Carolina, specifically in the vibrant and family-friendly suburbs of Charlotte. This allows us to remain close to our community, friends, and most importantly, family, while still embracing the fresh start and new environment this home offers.

When Will You Be Closing? The Anticipation Builds

The official date for signing on the dotted line is set for mid-April. So, yes, there’s still a little waiting game involved, which can feel like an eternity when you’re brimming with excitement and design ideas! However, we’re certainly not twiddling our thumbs during this interim period. We’re currently in the final stages of wrapping up my parents’ fantastic guest bedroom makeover – an exciting project for which I’ll be photographing the big reveal this very week. And, as if that weren’t enough, amidst all the packing and planning, we’re also gearing up to hop on a jet plane for an incredible Lowe’s makeover project, which I’ll be eagerly sharing more details about very soon. Robert and I are definitely keeping ourselves busy, juggling multiple creative endeavors and the momentous task of relocating. It’s a testament to our passion for home design and making spaces beautiful, no matter how chaotic life gets!

More Enchanting Details About Our New Brick Colonial

Now for the fun part – delving into the specifics of this gorgeous new home! Built in 1960, our Colonial possesses the timeless character and solid bones that only a house of its age can truly offer. We adore the sense of history and the stories it holds within its walls. Thankfully, it has also benefited from thoughtful updates over the years, ensuring that while it boasts vintage charm, we’re not facing a daunting, overwhelming fixer-upper project. This balance between preserved originality and modern convenience is exactly what drew us in.

The layout is wonderfully functional for our family’s needs. It features four spacious bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and perhaps most exciting for our little one, a dedicated playroom for Olivia. Robert is particularly thrilled about the expansive garage, which will serve as the perfect workshop for our endless furniture makeovers and various home improvement projects. I’m equally delighted to have a proper office space, a sanctuary where I can focus on my work and blog creative endeavors. Beyond the essentials, the house exudes a great deal of character through its architectural details and established feel. Robert has also got his eyes set on the outdoor shed, brimming with ideas for transforming it into something truly special and functional for his own projects or perhaps a creative retreat. The possibilities truly feel endless!

Our Design Philosophy: Embracing Existing Beauty and Character

My mind is already brimming with countless ideas for this house, each vision a puzzle piece fitting into the grand picture of our new home. However, my approach to this renovation will be markedly different from our previous house. With our last home, our mission was to fundamentally transform its builder-grade origins, injecting it with the rustic charm and character of a farmhouse style – remember the whole “out with the builder grade, in with the farmhouse” mantra? This time, our philosophy is shifting. I am committed to embracing and enhancing the inherent beauty and existing style that this Colonial already possesses. It’s about celebrating its original features, respecting its history, and letting its authentic charm shine through.

While there will undoubtedly be plenty of exciting changes and thoughtful updates to come, they will be executed with a deep reverence for the home’s established character. This means less drastic overhaul and more sensitive restoration and integration, ensuring that every modification feels like a natural evolution of its classic appeal. We aim to blend modern functionality with vintage elegance, creating a cohesive and timeless space that feels both fresh and deeply rooted in its past. It’s an exciting challenge, and one I can’t wait to embark on, knowing that the journey will involve uncovering and amplifying the unique story of this wonderful home.

It’s truly humbling and provides such a significant boost during these busy times. Every day, I am genuinely amazed by the numerous opportunities God has graciously provided for Robert and me, guiding us to this exciting new chapter. We honestly cannot even begin to imagine what incredible plans He has laid out for us next, but one thing we know for sure is that it will undoubtedly be awesome.

We are simply overflowing with enthusiasm for the adventure that lies ahead, eager to unpack not just boxes, but also new experiences, new projects, and new memories in our charming Colonial home. Thank you for being such an integral part of our journey, and for celebrating these milestones with us. Stay tuned for many more updates, revelations, and plenty of DIY inspiration as we transform this house into our forever home!
